Great post Tom. I agree that our relationship with life is under represented in many spiritual traditions and writings. How we relate to life and how life relates to us evolves with awareness. It does not lie. It is consistent. And the more we work with it to unburden ourselves from our imprints, the more we see the world clearly including greater depths of who we are!

Phenomenal piece Tom, what a synthesis. Tonos and metis are both new terms for me. Both feel so relevant to where I'm at in life right now. I'll be returning to this in the future

Thanks Will- both totally new to me too. I’m just so grateful there are people like River, Kingsley and Vervaeke who are alive today but able to link back to the past so well.

I would argue that the big payoff is not purpose, but rather "asobase kotoba" - the Japanese term that Campbell would use to describe a playful approach to life. The boon to humanity is the voluntary participant who now sees the world as a vast, beautiful game to engage in, not because they are driven by purpose, but because life is more fun when we are uniquely giving back to the world in ways that level up everyone and everything around us.

Yeah, I totally agree. Real purpose is challenging yet effortless. Wu Wei. It’s just that were it so rarely we assume purpose has to be a grind. Love that Japanese term.
